Free Guitar Workshop Planned by Cruden Bay Folk Club
Cruden Bay Folk Club is delighted to announce plans for a free Guitar Workshop to be held on 5th September. The event is being designed to welcome guitarists of all abilities, from complete beginners taking their very first steps with the instrument through to experienced players looking to develop and refine their skills.
To ensure that participants receive tuition appropriate to their level of experience, the workshop will be divided into three separate groups:
- Beginners
- Intermediate
- Advanced
Each group will be led by an experienced external guitar instructor, supported by members of Cruden Bay Folk Club who will be on hand throughout the day to assist participants and help create a friendly and welcoming learning environment.
The workshop is open to everyone and there are no upper age restrictions. We are keen to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the enjoyment of playing guitar and making music with others. However, in line with safeguarding requirements and relevant legislation, children under the age of [age] must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the event.
One of the aims of the workshop is to make guitar playing accessible to as many people as possible. For this reason, a limited number of guitars will be available for participants who do not own an instrument. As availability will be limited, loan guitars will need to be reserved in advance to avoid disappointment.
Further details about booking a place on the workshop, together with information on how to reserve a loan instrument, will be published once the results of our public consultation and participant survey have been reviewed.
We are currently seeking feedback to help us gauge interest and ensure that the workshop is tailored to the needs of those who wish to attend. If you are interested in taking part, please complete our poll and let us know which ability level best reflects your current playing experience.
We look forward to welcoming both new and experienced players to what promises to be an enjoyable, educational, and inspiring day of music-making in Cruden Bay.
Safeguarding and Attendance Policy – Community Guitar Workshops
These community guitar workshops are organised by Cruden Bay Folk Club and are intended to be welcoming, inclusive music sessions for participants of all ages.
Under-16 Attendance
Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied at all times by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. The accompanying adult remains responsible for the care, supervision, and behaviour of the child throughout the duration of the workshop.
Workshop tutors and organisers are not responsible for supervising or chaperoning unaccompanied minors.
Safeguarding and Safe Practice
We are committed to providing a safe and positive environment for all attendees. To support this:
- At least one responsible adult organiser will be present at each session.
- Tutors and volunteers will not be placed in situations where they are alone with a child participant.
- Activities are designed to take place in an open, group setting.
PVG and Background Checks
Where appropriate, organisers and regular tutors may hold PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) membership through Disclosure Scotland. This is part of our wider commitment to good safeguarding practice.
General Responsibility
All participants remain responsible for their own personal belongings and conduct during the workshop. The organisers accept no responsibility for unattended children.
By attending, participants and accompanying adults agree to this policy.
